Prevalence of Conversion Practices and Related Psychosocial Factors among LGBTQ+ people in Vietnam
This is the first large-scale quantitative study in Vietnam aimed at extensively investigating experiences with conversion therapy practices within the LGBTQ+ community, based on a survey of 681 participants.
The research findings reveal an alarming rate of over 40% of participants who have been victims of at least one form of conversion therapy, with family environments being where these interventions most persistently and continuously occur. Transgender individuals and those living in the Northern region face significantly higher risks of enduring conversion therapy practices. Survivors are reported to exhibit higher levels of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, while receiving less social support.
