Assessing the Information and Service Needs for Health Care and Other Specialized Services of Transgender Individuals in Vietnam.
Transgender individuals (TG) are people who have a gender identity or expression that differs from the gender assigned to them at birth, regardless of whether they undergo body modification surgery or not (iSEE, 2013). In reality, not all transgender people need to change their bodies, but most of them want to live, work, and express their gender in line with their self-identified gender. According to a report by the Legislative Department, Ministry of Health, it is estimated that there are around 500,000 transgender individuals in Vietnam. However, due to various reasons, the transgender community in Vietnam still lacks knowledge about sexual health and is often subject to discrimination, differential treatment, and inequality. As a result, many people often face difficulties in accessing and using healthcare, education, and social welfare services.
