WORKSHOP ON “THE RESULTS OF IMPLEMENTING PrEP MODELS”
On July 18, 2023, the Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) organized a workshop titled “Results of implementing PrEP models” to share the outcomes of implementing PrEP service models in provinces and cities including Hanoi, Haiphong, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, and Son La. The workshop was attended by representatives from VAAC, the US.CDC office, leaders from CDCs in the aforementioned provinces and cities, PrEP service providers, and community support organizations.
The latest reports show that Vietnam is achieving positive results in providing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services for HIV prevention, and is one of the exemplary countries in the Asian region. This is also a source of pride and motivation to continue promoting PrEP services in the near future.
At the workshop, representatives from PrEP service providers also shared their lessons learned in the process of reaching and providing services to the target community. Mr. Phung Ba Thanh, the Communications Manager of Lighthouse Social Enterprise, shared his insights on “Diversifying communication channels to bridge the gap in PrEP service delivery” to attract and promote the demand for PrEP services. The Lighthouse representative shared about the bridge communication process and emphasized the importance of the “customer-centric” principle in bridge communication activities. Additionally, the explosion of digital technology and social media has opened up opportunities for accessing and providing services. However, this also presents a significant challenge that requires the adaptive and proactive efforts of organizations to operate communication in a suitable manner.
At the end of the workshop, the organizers and participants jointly discussed and proposed potential recommendations and strategies to effectively implement the PrEP service program for the community in the near future.
